Harrison, Benjamin (1726-1791). Colonial merchant, planter, and signer of the Declaration of Independence as a Virginia delegate at the Second Continental Congress. DS, "Benjamin Harrison" as Governor of Virginia (1781-1784), 1p, approx 13 x 16 in. June 1, 1782. Document concerns the purchase of "three hundred acres" of land surveyed in Jefferson County by John Soverns, whose payment of "one hundred twenty pounds" has been received by "the treasury of this Commonwealth." Harrison's son William Henry Harrison served as President of the United States during the spring of 1841, while his great-grandson Benjamin Harrison held the office from 1889-1893.
