2nd century AD. A high-status enamelled bronze brooch type, pierced lugs on both sides to the lower edge, through which passed a rod to which small toilet articles were attached; D-shaped headplate with symmetrically placed reserved La Tène trumpet motifs against a dark blue enamel field; pierced lug to the top of the brooch for attachment to a securing pin. Cf. Hattatt, R. Brooches of Antiquity, Oxford, 1987, items 1081-3 with geometric, Roman-derived decoration. 26.57 grams, 41mm (1 1/2"). From an old English collection; found UK. [No Reserve]
