AN INSCRIBED BRONZE MIRROR
China, 3rd – 4th century. The suspension knob surrounded by two circumferential bands of characters and geometrical ornaments in high relief. Accompanied by an old box, an original invoice from January 25th, 1960, and a catalogue of the Hallwyl Collection in Stockholm, by Orvar Karlbeck, showing related mirrors. (4)

Provenance: Collection of Erik Holmberg. Thence by descent. Holmberg (1888-1972) was fascinated by Asian Art and became a true academic collector, striving to learn more about the subject at all times, which is evident in his many letters to museum directors, dealers and fellow members of the China club at the time. He donated several of his Chinese paintings to the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm.
Condition: Original patina and encrustation, wear and traces of use, minor dents here and there.

青銅鏡
