Restorations, loss of colour. - The family Cantelmo (or Cantelmi or Cantelma) was an italian noble family of french origin. They acquired their first feudal privileges in Italy in 1269, when Giacomo Cantelmo, after Charles I of Anjou, conquered the kingdom of Naples and obtained territories in Abruzzo and the land of labour. The family died with Giuseppe Cantelmo, Prince of Pettorano and Duke of Popoli, who had two daughters, the first married the Tocco family, so the Tocco family changed their name to Tocco-Cantelmo Stuart; the second married the Carafa family, whose descendants changed their name to Carafa-Cantelmo Stuart.
