The cover is decorated with Shoulao in a roundel in a large 'chun' character flanked by two dragons amongst clouds, all above an offering dish with precious objects. The sides of the box cover and base are decorated with cartouches enclosing scholars in landscapes interspersed with the Eight Buddhist Emblems, all on a geometric ground.
