A COPPER KOZUKA HANDLE OF TAKANORIA COPPER KOZUKA HANDLE OF TAKANORIBy Terumitsu, kozuka handle, copper and some gold Japan, around 1800, Edo period (1615-1868)A finely carved tsuba in low relief with some gold depicting Takanori. Parts of the armor and the handle of a sword, also the tsuba, can be seen under the heavy mino, a rain coat made from straw. The man wearing it also has a large straw hat (sugegasa) and holding a paintbrush up with one hand. He is Takanori, a follower of the emperor Go-Daigo during the 14th century, writing a poem on the decorticated trunk of a cherry tree as a message to the emperor, under golden cherry (sakura) blossoms.
