A mid-Victorian silver cream jug, the bellied form embossed and chased with flowers and foliage surrounding a crested and monogrammed cartouche, with foliate capped double scroll handle and raised on three stylised paw feet. Hallmarked Edward & John Barnard, London 1856. Height including handle 5 3/8 inches (13.7 cm), weight 4.77 ozt (148.3 grams). Appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. Heavier tarnishing to some areas including the interior. Some rubbing with loss of surface detail to areas of the decoration but overall still good. Interior likely once gilded but is now very tarnished and dirty with heavier scratched marks visible around the base. Hallmarks rubbed but legible.
