紫檀整挖笔筒，木色深沉，包浆莹润。圆筒厚壁，外壁仿自然形态雕刻树瘤形状，偶有瘿结分布，别有意趣。明清初文人追求自然雅趣，因此在文房器皿中常常模仿天然事物，此笔筒即属其类。
