陈荫罴（1913-1995）生于广东中山县，12岁于中国完成中学后随父亲赴美。于1934年进入美国洛杉矶奥蒂斯艺术学院就读，于1940年取得美术硕士学位，次年于洛杉矶加州艺术俱乐部举行首次个展，而后受到洛杉矶郡立美术馆馆展麦坚尼的推荐于1942年在旧金山荣勋宫举行个展，同年参加奥蒂斯艺术学院年度展，获得油画类第一名。1947-49年返回中国，个展于广州市文献馆及上海。1950年返美并开始研究抽画像，1951年参加詹姆士维吉维诺艺廊举办的“法美两国名家小画展”联展，其中参展画家包括：梵谷、雷诺瓦、夏卡尔等。陈荫罴于1969-1973年期间应南加州帕撒狄纳美术馆之邀举行个展，展出50件抽象作品。其作品被中国上海美术馆、广东美术馆、圣地亚哥博物馆及美国数个市立美术馆永久收藏。
