本件拍卖标的处于保税状态下，详情请见本图录《保税拍品竞买须知》。20世纪三十年代，张大千开始践行石涛和尚“搜尽奇峰打草稿”的理论，曾于1927年、1931年、1936年三游黄山，两次登临绝顶，并曾托请方介堪刻“两到黄山绝顶人”的图章，钤于自诩得意的画作之上。此卷黄山纪游之百步云梯创作于1935年末，据题跋内容可知为张善孖施墨，大千敷色，合而成之，色墨交融之态犹如一人所为，兄弟二人对于黄山结构了然于胸之情，对绘画技法配合娴熟之态，可谓空前绝后。大千昆仲钟情黄山，先后创作黄山诸胜景者难以计数，然手卷者少见，且此卷1935年创作，同年出版于《张善子大千兄弟画册》，可见此卷在大千昆仲山水画历程中之重要意义。
