Provenienz:
- 1923 in der Sammlung des Count van Lynden, Keukenhof Lisse, (als Erbstück auder Familie Steengracht);
- Privatsammlung USA/Niederlande.

Die Dargestellte Maria Sonmans (1654-1680) war die zweite Ehefrau des Rotterdamer Bügermeisters Gerard Dael (1639-1712). Die vorliegende Arbeit dürfte Teil eines Doppelporträts aus Anlass der Hochzeit am 18. Mai 1671 gewesen sein. Das Gegenstück mit dem Porträt des Gerard Dael, in der gleichen Größe gemalt von Jan de Baen, tauchte in der Öffentlichkeit im Rahmen einer Versteigerung 1921 bei Bangel in Frankfurt auf, ist seitdem aber verschollen.
Sabine Craft-Giepmans vom RKD, Den Haag bestätigt uns in einer Email vom 20.12.2018 die Zuschreibung und Identifikation der Dargestellten als Maria Sonmans und nennt uns die angegebene Provenienz.

Provenance:
- 1923 in he collection of Count van Lynden, Keukenhof Lisse, (as inherited piece of the Steengracht family);
- Private collection USA/Netherlands.

The depicted Maria Sonmans (1654-1680) was the second wife of the Rotterdam mayor Gerard Dael (1639-1712). The present work is presumed to be part of a double portrait on the occasion of the wedding on 18th May 1671. The corresponding piece with the portrait of Gerard Dael, in the same size painted by Jan de Baen, appeared in public in the context of an auction in 1921 at Bangel in Frankfurt, but is lost since then.
Sabine Craft-Giepmans of the RKD, The Hague confirms the attribution of the depicted as Maria Sonmans and names the here mentioned provenance in an e-mail from the 20th of December 2018.
