Chinese Ming Dynasty blue and white dragon porcelain lidded jar. In shape of a phoenix tail, the shape having thick potted body, sturdily potted in a bulbous body, gently tapered on shoulder toward prominent straight neck with wide opening, covered with cylindrical lid and crowned with simply bud finial, raised on flat base. Main body decorated in blue under-glazed painting, depicted five-claws dragon flying amidst flames with a ruyi cloud against blue white glazed ground, Lotus blooms with interlocking vines. The foot rim reveals the cut edges during the making process, and the base left unglazed with grayish creme-brown ground and dark spots of firing marks. The glaze appearance resembled the texture of an orange peel "ju-pi" (chu-p'i) or a chicken skin.Mark on top collar, a horizontal six under-glazed blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within rectangular frame, Jiajing Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
