Description
Translation provided by Youdao
Stunning Chinese Qing Dynasty Gilt Bronze seal with turtle dragon and Fu Dog handgrip, lined with raised embellishments. A cuboid slab of rich quality, with a fair amount of heft. Crisp even sides etched into the perimeter with well-defined ornamentation of ruyi cloud form and the center body decorated with enormous front facing imperial five-claws dragons standing between under-glazed fumes clouds and flames above wavy Lishui water. The Dogs are an important motif in Chinese mythology. These motifs include a particular dog which accompanies a hero, the dog as one of the twelve totem creatures for which years are named, a dog giving first provision of grain which allowed current agriculture, and claims of having a magical dog as an original ancestor in the case of certain ethnic groups. The cuboid chop seal carved with six seal script characters.
