26th-7th century BC. Group of carved stone stamp seals, all with copies of typed and signed scholarly notes by the late W. G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993 and accompanied by museum quality impressions comprising: Syria (4), with notes: 'Stamp seal of black stone, 19 x 25 x 10mm. A scaraboid. The reverse is covered with linear filling, the obverse shows a horned animal with head turned back and fillings. Syria, c. 1000-700 B.C.'; 'Stamp seal of white stone, 28 x 29 x 11mm. A round, flat face, rounded back. A walking lion. Syria, c. 1000-600 B.C.'; 'Stamp seal of carnelian, 16 x 22 x 6mm. The original broken loop replaced by secondary drilling. Two facing, browsing horned animals, bird on the wing above. Syria, c. 1500-800 B.C.' and 'Loom weight of brown stone, 16 x 16 x 12mm. The sides are carved with animals and a seated human among other things. Difficult to date, but Syria, c. 2500-500 B.C.' 28 grams total, 16-29mm (3/4 - 1 1/4"). From a private collection of seals and amulets, the property of a Canadian gentleman living in London; from his father's collection formed in the late 1960s to 1980s; inventory number 130,131,132 & 140.
