8th-5th century BC. A carved white marble stamp seal depicting a Persian king and lion, accompanied by a museum quality impression and a copy of a typed, and signed scholarly note by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham 1970-1993, which states: 'Stamp seal of white marble, 15 x 12 x 19mm., and octagonal dome. The Achaemenid Persian king about to stab a rearing lion. Mesopotamia or Syria, c. 500-300 B.C.'. 4.61 grams, 19mm (3/4"). From a private collection of seals and amulets, the property of a Canadian gentleman living in London; from his father's collection formed in the late 1960s to 1980s; inventory number 111. Very fine condition.
