Carboniferous Period, 359 - 299 million years BP. A large fossil fish with good preservation of the scale pattern and the posterior fins and epichordial lobes, on sandstone matrix. 5.5 kg, 85cm (33 1/2"). From a private UK collection, acquired on the London art market 1990-2000. This large fish fossil is classified as Carboniferous based on morphology: the overall length, scale pattern, the extended epichordial lobe, and the absence of an upper anterior fin. The lower anterior fin is present, but folded under the body. Fine condition.
