Third Dynasty of Ur, 22nd-21st century BC. A Mesopotamian cuneiform inscribed clay barrel cylinder, a scribal student’s trial piece, with excerpts from two different known texts: the first consisting of three long lines of text from end to end concerning Arad-Nanna, a well-known high official at the time of King Shu-Suen of Ur, reading ‘Arad-Nanna, governor of the Shimashkians and the land of Karda’; the second in a centered column extending more than half-way around the cylinder, with short lines (reflecting the lines of the original model text), reading ‘for (the god) Nanna, [king’s name omitted], the king of Ur, king of the Four Quarters, set up(?) a 5 mina (weight); pierced down the centre. 262 grams, 95mm (3 3/4"). From the Addis Finney (1908-1996) collection, a chemical engineer from Akron, Ohio, USA, who formed his collection in Basel, Switzerland, between 1935-1965.
