|如意相传由古代的爪杖演变而来，千年流变，渐被赋予“吉祥如意”之象征。此件黄杨木灵芝如意，保留根瘤的天然形态，加以雕刻制成，风格稚拙古朴。柄首雕刻成灵芝状，柄身柄似枯枝，线条自然柔和，黄杨木质地细腻，包浆色泽华美，雕工奇巧，为清早期木雕上品。灵芝在艺术作品中寓意长寿，是吉祥的象征。文人亦喜灵芝，中国灵芝文化发展的鼎盛期是宋代，北宋著名诗人秦观说：“草之有芝，犹鸟之有凤，兽之有鳞，从古相传，以为瑞物。”形态别致的灵芝题材，在明清工艺品中频繁出现。|参阅：《故宫如意选萃》图14、23，国立故宫博物院，1973年。
