Comprising: an en grisaille decorated Juno and the Peacock saucer; an armorial saucer with the motto nihil sine labor; an octagonal armorial plate bearing the arms of Sir Richard Chase, the Sheriff of Essex within a cell diaper border; famille verte sanduo dish; and a famille verte lotus and crane dish. The Juno and Peacock saucer: 2.8 cm. x 10.2 cm. Armorial saucer: 3 cm. high x 13.7 cm. diam. Armorial plate: 2.5 cm. high x 21.5 cm. diam. The sanduo dish: 3.5 cm. high x 22.2 cm. diam. The lotus and crane dish: 3 cm. high x 22 cm. diam. Compare a Juno cup, saucer, and tea tray in the Ethel Liebman and Arthur L. Liebman Porcelain Collection held in the Elvehjem Museum of Art, published in C. Coleman Brawer, Chinese Export Porcelain, University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1992, p. 138, cat. 111. For a discussion on the service which bears the arms of Chase, see p. 259 which states that this service was made around 1750. Four octagonal plates of a similar size to the present lot from the Bullivant Collection of Armorial Porcelain were sold at Phillips London, 22 March 1988, lot 168. Condition: The Juno and Peacock saucer: appears to be in overall good condition. Armorial saucer: there is a hairline to the rim (approx. 2 cm. long) Armorial plate: has been cracked into four pieces and restuck, with associated chips. Sanduo dish and lotus and crane dish: there is a star crack to the base. All: some of the dishes have small chips to the rim. Origin: China Period: 18th century Sizes: 3.50 cm.
