|唐三彩是一种低温釉陶，在色釉中加入不同的金属氧化物，经过焙烧便形成浅黄、赭黄、浅绿、深绿、天蓝、茄紫、褐红等多种色彩，但多以黄、褐、绿三色为主，以天蓝、茄紫较珍贵稀见。它主要是陶胚上涂彩釉，在烘制过程中发生化学变化，使色釉熔融互相浸润其色彩浓淡变化，斑驳淋漓。使三彩器因色彩流畅协调，造型新颖多彩的相互辉映下富涵堂皇贵丽的艺术魅力，是具有中国独特风格的传统工艺精品。有唐一代，丰满肥硕的唐三彩以骆驼、仕女、力士等塑件多见，而尺寸较大的秀逸挺拔的龙把壶极为少见。此三彩壶将唐代皇家佛教的艺术经典完美体现，珍贵稀罕无需赘言。
