La Dosa signed and dated 'AMilesi 1916' (lower left)oil on canvas68.3 x 43.2cm (26 7/8 x 17in).
|Venetian-born Alessandro Milesi was a pupil of Napoleone Nani at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia. Influenced by the work of Giacomo Favretto, Milesi also drew inspiration from the more modern styles of Ettore Tito and Cesare Laurenti, particularly in his treatment of light and use of colour. He cemented his reputation after exhibiting in Milan and Venice in the 1880s, later exhibiting at the Milan Triennale museum, and at all the Venice Biennales from 1895-1935, including a solo show in 1912. Milesi was known for his depictions of everyday Venetian life, as well as portraits of the Venetian middle classes, famous actors and musicians. The present lot is a version of the picture of the same title painted in 1910 in the collection of Fondazione di Venezia.
