81,5 x 53 cm R.
In the style of Gai Qi (1773-1828), Lady with Phoenix and Girl Servant, China, dated 1819. Framed under glass, 81,5 x 53 cm, ink and colors on silk. Inscription and signature by the artist: "After a painting by Jieyuan of the Tang dynasty (618-1907), in the summer of the jimao year (1819), Qixiang Gai Qi." Two seals of the artist: "Seal of Gai Qi" (Gai Qi zhi yin), "Qixiang". - Gai Qi, style name Qixiang, was the most prominent figure painter in the early nineteenth century. His favored genre was the depiction of beautiful ladies, in which he was inspired by Tang Yin (1470-1523) of the Ming dynasty. This painting is executed extraordinary fine and with vivid expressions of the ladies' faces. The treatment of the rich clothing and the meticulous application of bright colors are all of high quality. Yet the style of the signature and seals seem not to be that of Gai Qi. - Property from a German private collection, family property since the 1980s -
