|棋盘为长方形，委角攒边，通体髹饰黑漆为地，四壁上描金绘制庭院人物，笔法精湛。双陆是用长颈瓶状的棋子和骰子进行比赛的一种博奕游戏，和印度的博戏有一定的渊源关系，大约自曹魏时（公元3世纪）传入中国，至唐而十分流行，日本正仓院现在还藏有唐代的双陆盘，亦可为证。明、清之际，它逐渐衰落。由于清初时期双陆之戏被官方禁止，故传世的双陆盘多为十七世纪或更早的制品。
