为清末摄影师从崇文门上向北拍摄的崇文门内大街街景，拍摄时正是上午，街道两旁可见往来贩夫走卒和忙于生计的市民，生活气息浓厚。品相保存完好，为反映清末北京崇文门内地区建筑和风土人情的珍贵影像。托马斯·查尔德（Thomas Child，1841-1898），英国人，早年在英国学习摄影，1870年5月到北京，受雇于海关稽查总局，成为工程师。在北京工作期间（1870-1890），托马斯·查尔德投入大量时间和精力拍摄了北京及周围的建筑和风景，尤其是早期圆明园和颐和园的残迹，留下宝贵影像。托马斯·查尔德是第一位学习过摄影技术在中国皇家园林遗址（圆明园和颐和园）上拍摄的职业摄影师，他采用玻璃湿版照相工艺来摄制，但不论从构图、光线运用、蛋白照片印制水平来说，都已经达到了很高水平。
