释迦牟尼佛是佛教的创始者，原为北印度的迦毗罗卫国（今尼泊尔的南方）的太子。自幼享受荣华富贵，却从未在优越的生活中获得喜乐，后因感于人们总为生老病死而感到困扰痛苦，从而萌发求道救世的意念，于29岁时离宫出家修行，并于35岁时彻悟人生真谛。释尊成道以后，即四处传播佛法，不分贵贱种族、信仰，度化了无数信众。此尊释迦摩尼像端庄肃穆，慈心法相。整体而言，此像面容丰腴，坐姿挺直，衣纹繁复流畅，体型硕大，明代佛像保存至今非常完好者十分难得，值得典藏（莲花宝座后配）。
