Ye Gongchuo, whose courtesy name was Yufu and whose name was Xia'an. In his later years, he was assigned to Juyuan. He was a modern Chinese scholar, calligrapher, painter, social activist, and collection connoisseur. Ye Gongchuo was proficient in cultural scholarship, archeology, calligraphy and painting, and had a rich collection of ancient cultural relics. In painting, he is good at painting bamboo, stone, pine orchid, especially bamboo. He is beautiful and vigorous, writes directly from his heart, and often writes poems in his paintings. He was the first to discover and repair the Yungang Grottoes, protect the Mao Gong Tripod and the stone carvings of Qixia Mountain in Nanjing, and republished the Buddhist scriptures of the Jin Dynasty.
