Nagata Nisuke, 1863 - 1927, was a merchant and politician during the Meiji and Taisho periods. President of Naniwa Bank, elected member of the House of Nobles. Born in Nishinai County, Settsu Province, he is the eldest son of rice merchant Nagata Nizaemon. He studied Chinese classics at the Tomawa Academy of Fujisawa Minami School, and loves traditional Chinese culture. Thereafter, he closed the family business and was elected to the Osaka City Council election for the first time in 1889. He was also elected as a member of the Osaka Prefectural Assembly. Entrusted by the descendants of the Nagata family, this auction presents a part of Nagata Hitosuke's early collection, all of which come from the exquisite Chinese porcelain exhibited by the Kyoto Art Club in the eighth year of Taisho.
