来源：英国私人收藏盖盒作仿生瓜果式，并以活环相连。外壁雕瓜叶及甲虫，并借皮色作装饰，细致生动。苦瓜可能由于名称不雅，在清宫档案中常以「锦荔枝」为名记载，参看北京故宫藏一件清白玉雕苦瓜摆件，着录于《故宫博物院藏品大系：玉器编9清代玉器》，北京，2011年，页174，编号164；以瓜果为式样的玉制盖盒，见维多利亚及阿尔伯特博物馆藏一件十八世纪青白玉雕寿桃盖盒，着录于M.Wilson，《Chinese Jades》，伦敦，2004年，页56，图版58。苦瓜有「坚韧刻苦」、「苦尽甘来」之意，甲虫在玉雕中则谐音「甲」，有「富甲天下」之意，可见此盖盒设计之巧思。见纽约佳士得曾售出一件十八/十九世纪青白玉雕苦瓜式盖盒，2016年9月16日，拍品编号1279。
