白铜墨盒是清中晚期兴起的文房用具，吸取了石雕、竹刻、篆刻等各家技法，辅以书法、绘画、治印艺术形式。由于其兼顾了实用性与收藏性，又符合文人趣味，曾风靡一时。
本品由白铜所制，盖面刻青铜圆鼎及青铜觚，器形庄重，纹饰繁缛，雕刻清晰，右侧镌有“鹿鸣”章款。底心钤有“彝宝”款。此盒纹饰复杂，刻工规整精湛，线条细腻流畅，值得珍藏。
根据印款可知，此盒应为民国时期琉璃厂刻铜名家张鹿鸣所刻。其以刻青铜器纹饰墨盒及镇尺闻名，其带款作品存世不多，其中不少是其为荣宝斋、伦池斋等所作。
