After Carlo Dolci, Italian 1616-1686- Christ Bearing The Cross; oil on copper, 30.1 x 23.2 cm., (unframed). Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The quality of the present work is high and one cannot preclude the possibility that it is by the hand of Dolci's student Bartolomeo Manicini (c.1630-1715), who similarly favoured the medium of copper, and whose handling recalls that of the present work. There is another copy held at the Royal Collections Trust [RCIN 400625], on copper and of similar dimensions to the present work. A version of the composition is recorded as having once been in the Northbrook collection and this is possibly Dolci's original painting, from which the copies derive. Christ is shown bust-length and turned full-face towards the viewer. He is wearing a pink robe with a blue mantle and the crown of thorns upon his head. He carries the cross over his left shoulder, there are beads of blood on his forehead and cheeks, and his mouth is open. A glow surrounds his head. 品相报告: Please refer to department for condition report
