A RARE BLUE AND WHITE, COPPER-RED AND CELADON-GLAZED BRUSHPOT, BITONGShi dai lian fang mark, Kangxi Exquisitely decorated around the exterior with large rocks in celadon green, a small figure in a boat crosses a lake and a flock of geese fly back to the shore in the evening, all in strong cobalt-blue, the blossoms on the trees in copper-red, the wispy clouds incised, the countersunk base partially white-glazed and inscribed with an six-character mark in underglaze blue. 18.8cm (7 1/4in) diam. 清康熙 青花釉裏三彩山水圖筆筒 青花「世代聯芳」楷書款 Provenance: Jan van Beers Oriental Art, London, 3 December 2007 Published and Illustrated: S.Marsh, Brushpots: A Collector's View , Hong Kong, 2020, pp.132-133 來源：倫敦古董商 Jan van Beers Oriental Art，2007年12月3日 錄著： S.Marsh，《Brushpots: A Collector's View》，香港，2020年，頁132-133 The present lot is not just unusual for its colouring: the potter's ability to successfully fire underglaze blue, copper red and celadon on this brushpot is an exceptional achievement. The design of the clouds and tree grain was carved and incised into the body which served both an aesthetic and technical purpose to prevent the pigments from mixing into each other during firing. Copper red was notoriously difficult to control, thus the addition of celadon glaze adds to theplexity of the firing and the rarity of vessels decorated in this palette. The auspicious four-character mark, Shi dai lian fang , 'Generation after generation will attain high office' is also rare. Related brushpots, inscribed with Kangxi reign marks and of the period, are in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Porcelain of the National Palace Museum: Enamelled Ware of the Qing Dynasty (Book I) , Hong Kong, 1969, pl.1, where the decoration is referred to as 'underglaze three-colour', p.32.pare also with a related blue and white, copper red and celadon glazed brushpot, Kangxi, six-character mark and of the period, but decorated with flowers and butterflies, illustrated in Kangxi Porcelain Wares from the Shanghai Museum Collection , Hong Kong, 1998, pp.128-129, no.87.
