Charles Fleetwood Varley (1863-1942) for Liberty & Co, Silver box with enamel plaque, 1924, Manufactured by W.H.Haseler, Lower left plaque signed 'VARLEY'. Box hallmarked for W.H.Haseler, Birmingham, Box: 13cm x 9cm x 5cm high. Enamel plaque: 8.2cm x 5.7cm Footnote William Hair Haseler, founder member of the firm W. H. Haseler, merged with Liberty's & Co., in 1901 and thereafter continued to execute all silver. They also made the Tudric pewter range. Literature Isabelle Anscombe & Charlotte Gere, Arts & Crafts in Britain and America, Academy Editions, London, 1978, p.203 for similar designs.Enamel plaque in good order. Silver box has an indentation to the left side below the hallmarks, also small dents to the silver which frames the plaque, overall some surface marks/light scratches and surface variations between hammered effect and smooth, however the overall appearance of the box is in good order. Interior wood lining has pen marks.
