熏炉整体铸成胡人戏兽状，瑞兽四肢灵动矫健，侧身回首，双目圆睁，张口露齿，又显得温驯服从。兽首有一角，向后蜿蜒生长，尾部鬃毛随风飘展，雕刻入微。一胡人据坐于瑞兽背上，一手举槌，一手拿锣，头戴直檐帽，身着宽衣锦袍，正挥舞戏兽，妙趣横生。胡人面庞方正饱满，面含微笑，充满喜庆气息。熏炉分体铸造，以胡人为盖，雄狮为熏，腹部中空，可承香料，燃香时，烟气袅袅飘出，意境优美。
以胡人形象装饰工艺品，始于唐，并盛于唐。其后减少，及至明代中晚期，随着中西贸易往来的复苏，又开始出现胡人形象。胡人形象为当时社会繁荣昌盛，万邦来朝的真实反映，寓意国力强盛，天下太平。
