BARACK OBAMA'S 2009 VISIT TO THE SUPREME COURT, RUTH BADER GINSBURG'S COPY.[PETTEWAY, STEVEN M., photographer.] Visit of President-Elect Barack Obama / January 14, 2009. Washington, DC: Office of the Curator, 2009. 8vo. Original gray cloth gilt. Illustrated throughout with color photographs. Before his inauguration as the 44th President of the United States, President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden were invited by Chief Justice John Roberts to visit the Supreme Court. This was only the third time in recent history that such a meeting took place, following Bill Clinton and Al Gore in December of 1992 and Ronald Reagan And George H.W. Bush in November of 1980. Obama, the former Constitutional Law professor, was just as star-struck as the Justices were in his presence. When Obama was shown the Supreme Court's conference table for the first time, he asked, "Is this where they decided Brown?" "Indeed, it was," the Chief Justice answered. This book, which features digitally printed photographs on photo paper, was printed and bound internally by the Supreme Court's Office of the Curator and likely was part of a very small run for distribution to the Justices and staff.
