此砚以五花石为材雕就，传世少见。触手细润，材质绝佳，纹理华美，满溢静穆素美气息。整作长方形，砚缘雕缠枝卷草纹一周，砚堂平坦，落潮式偃月状墨池，墨池之上高浮雕瑞兽趴伏回首，躬身伏卧，神采奕奕。砚背覆手内镌铭文“以静为用，是以永年。”，并落“康熙御铭”双方印。
