(56.2 x 79.1cm) Provenance Forty-Seventh Street Gallery, New York, New York. Acquired directly from the above. Private Collection, Pennsylvania. Condition report: The wax-lined canvas in overall fair condition, with some skinning visible in the sky qnd on the pier at center left. With evident cracks in the paint at bottom left (in the surf), bottom center (in the sea) and center right (in the sky, to the right of the gull). Examination under UV light reveals extensive retouching, first at bottom center left (on and around the pier, on each side of the lighthouse), at bottom left on some characters, as well as at center left on the top boat. The main area of restoration is located at upper right in the sky (a mix of old and new restoration, apparently broader than needed), as well as the horizon line at center right (in the sea, not the sky). All the aforementioned cracks have been inpainted as well. With pinpoint touchup along the bottom outer edge in the sea. The signature remains intact.
