款识：「大明成化年制」六字三行楷书款 《西厢记》全名《崔莺莺待月西厢记》，又称「北西厢」，为元代著名杂剧作家王实甫代表作，讲述了张生与崔莺莺曲折美丽的爱情故事。《西厢记》曲词华艳优美，其中无不体现着追求自由的思想，是我国古典戏剧的现实主义杰作，对后来以爱情为题材的小说、戏剧创作影响很大。本品所绘为张生与崔莺莺被叛将孙飞虎围于普救寺内，张生拜托惠明和尚送信给自己的莫逆之交征西大元帅杜确出兵解围的一幕。
