佛教经典中，以狮为坐骑的菩萨形象有二，一为文殊菩萨，是聪明和智慧之化身，坐骑为青狮；一为观世音菩萨，以慈悲和法力着称，是最受民间崇敬的菩萨。在民间信仰中，狮吼观音最早出现于隋代。明清之际，供奉狮吼观音更为流行，笔记小说中亦多以狮作为观音坐骑，又称为金犼，威猛无比。拍品观音坐于狮背之上，面容饱满，束发垂于耳后，身披风帽，胸前佩戴璎珞，法相慈祥，衣纹垂坠自然流畅，品相保存完好，颇为难得。
