通体为银质，配有红黄两色绶带。在1843年，维多利亚女王的指示下，英国政府将其授予所有在1840年7月5日至1842年8月29日参加了第一次鸦片战争的英国陆军与海军。勋章正面为怀恩设计的维多利亚女王年轻时期的侧面胸像，背面为棕榈树下堆砌的盾牌、绞盘、锚、鼓、军旗、枪支和海军加农炮。上方拉丁文意为“以武力祈祷和平”，下方标注“中国”及“1842”。第一次鸦片战争作为中华民族近代苦难史的开端，英国为其颁发的勋章颇具警示意义。直径3.5厘米。
