【题识】光绪癸卯于天津，袁世凯书。 【钤印】直隶总督 【作者简介】袁世凯（1859～1916），中国近代史上著名的政治家、军事家，北洋军阀领袖。字慰亭（又作慰廷），号容庵、洗心亭主人，汉族，河南项城人，故人称“袁项城”。是中国近代史上最具争议的人物之一。 【按语】此幅作品是袁世凯担任直隶总督时所写，“忠勇义烈”四个字，豪放有力，遒劲霸气。袁世凯戎马一生宦海沉浮多年，他的书法在字里行间中透出一股气势，一如他在军事政治上的“霸气”。袁世凯身处乱世，攻法绝杀，气定神的书法功夫绝非一日之功夫能养成。他的书法在一定程度上亦为后人留下了不少值得研究、可资借鉴之处，收藏价值极高。
