花插由整块南红玛瑙分色巧雕而成，施以深浮雕及透雕技法，白色部分巧作树桩一截，作为花插的主体，中空，掏膛匀净，树桩表面刻有树瘤等肌理纹饰。红色部分巧作灵芝、藤蔓、枝叶及果实，刻工采用大面积镂空，具有空间感和层次感。整器分色明确，红、白双色形成鲜明对比，红色娇艳欲滴，白色质如糯米，具有强烈的视觉观感。 南红玛瑙属于珍贵石材，存世多是小件雕刻。这件花插体量硕大，质地上乘，是难得的南红大件雕刻品，原配镂雕木座，适合陈设于厅堂等场所。整体工艺精湛，打磨一丝不苟，选材、雕工具有清乾隆宫廷风格。从存世南红雕刻品来看，这件花插无论选材、雕工、立意，都为乾隆时期玛瑙艺术之佼佼者。
