Description

PILLAR CARPET WITH LAMA WITH SHELL TRUMPET. Origin: China. Gansu. Dynasty: Qing dynasty. Date: Mid 19th c. Technique: Pile from wool, warp and weft cotton. Description: The Gelugpa Lama with yellow hat is shown with a shell trumpet (shanka) and prayer beads. Over his long garment he wears draped a kasaya (Tib. chogo). He is surrounded by six of the Eight Buddhist Treasures, above his head the canopy, only the umbrella is missing. In the lower part the carpet shows the lines of deep water (lishui), at the upper end a pearl border with ruyi shapes. Measurement: 240x112cm. Condition A/B. Beschreibung: Der Lama, durch seine gelbe Mütze zur Gelugpa-Schule gehörig, musiziert auf einem Muschelhorn (shanka) und trägt eine Gebetskette über dem Arm. Über seinem langen Gewand ist um seine Schultern ein kasaya (tib. chogo) drapiert. Ihn umgeben sechs der Acht Buddhistischen Schätze, über seinem Kopf zudem der Baldachin, einzig der Schirm fehlt.
