STANDING BI-METALL HANUMAN Bronze India , 18th century Dimensions: Height 29 cm Weight: 4144 grams Standing monkey king on a lotus base attached on a square surface with bend corners. He is dressed in a short dhoti with long sashes on the side and the whole body is adorned with armlets, anklets and belts, a flowy scarf is hanging around his hips. He has a big snout and the eyes are awake and attentive. The head is decorated with a high conical headdress with geometric patterns and finial. On the back we see his tail standing straight up along his back, fine hairlines and bun are visible underneath the headdress. Both his hands are joined in front of him in anjali mudra, gesture of gratitude and greeting. Provenance: Collection Sharpes, Strasbourg , acquired 1999 in New York , original invoice available
