A pair of antique Chinese Zitan WeiTuo incense stands in the form of chariots with internal containers and terrace. Four wheels support each elaborately carved stand with gilt outlined drawers. Skanda or Wei-Tuo is known as the devoted guardian of Buddhist monasteries protecting the teachings of the Buddha. According to the legends after Buddhas death, many religious relics were pilfered by demons which Wei-Tuo slew and returned the sacred artifacts. Rich in color and design these stands produce an enthralling appearance. The fence that surrounds the upper terrace is made up of traditional knots, with interconnected talisman between each golden capped post. The awning is masterfully carved in an intricate filigree pattern. Delicate sheen glimmers as light dances across the polished surface. Dimensions: 10-1/2"H x 9-1/8"W (each)
