A Superb Antique Large gilt bronze seated Shakyamuni Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, the Enlightened One, Sage of the Shakya Clan, seated in the Vajra posture which resembles meditation, and wisdom. The face has an appropriately serene expression, with one face and two hands he gazes forward, with downcast eyes under delicately arched brows, pendulous earlobes, cast in formal in appearance, adorning the neck are two slightly curved lines and suggestion of a smile of contentment. The hair is arranged in rows of coils that also cover the ushnisha, on the head is piled in a tuft on top with a single gold ornament adorning the crown. The drapery is cast in elegant pleats falling from the shoulders to the lap and pooling across the folded legs. symbolic of the Buddha's entry into a state of profound meditation. The right arm bare the hand is extended across the knee in relaxing gesture. The third floor of the palace depicts Amitabha Buddha, the second floor Avalokiteshvara and on the ground floor Padmasambhava surrounded by his eight traditional forms relating to the chronology of his life story. The three figures of Amitabha, Avalokiteshvara and Padmasambhava form an important trinity in the Nyingma religious tradition of the 'Revealed Treasures' (terma).
