Kai-Shek Chiang Chiang Kai-shek & Madame Chiang Kai-shek Signed Place Card, PSA/DNA Encapsulated & Graded EX-MT 6!A place card signed by Chinese leader Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975), and also signed by his fourth wife, Madame Chiang Kai-Shek aka Soong May-ling (1897/8-2003). Chiang Kai-shek's signature appears in Chinese characters at center top, and First Lady Kai-shek's signature appears in English as "Mayling Soong Chiang" at center bottom. Pencil inscribed "dinner at Chiang-Kai-Shek" verso. Graded by PSA/DNA as EX-MT 6. Uneven toning and isolated discoloration of the card. The tented place card is displayed flat in an encapsulated slab measuring 6.625" x 10.125" overall. The place card is typed "Mrs. John F. Simmons" and features printed decoration in color including the flag of the Republic of China (1912-1949) at upper left. This card belonged to Caroline Thompson Simmons (1910-2004), the wife of American diplomat John Farr Simmons (1892-1968). Simmons served as Chief of Protocol during the Truman and Eisenhower administrations, between July 1950-January 1957, and it is likely that this card was autographed by the Kai-sheks sometime during this period. Prior to this appointment, John F. Simmons served as U.S. Ambassador to Ecuador and El Salvador respectively.Chiang Kai-shek served as the President of the Republic of China between 1950-1975. He was an early ally of Sun Yat-sen, the first premier of the Kuomintang and the first president of the Republic of China, and a pivotal figure in China's twentieth-century nationalist movement. While Kai-shek is credited with modernizing China and resisting Japanese encroachment during the so-called Nanjing Decade preceding World War II, his vigorous persecution of Chinese Communists and dissidents has been condemned by some modern historians.Soong May-ling diligently promoted Chinese social programs and was active in politics. Educated at Wellesley College and reared in northern Georgia, she spoke English fluently with a Georgian accent, something that greatly appealed to American audiences when she campaigned for Chinese Nationalism in the United States during World War II. The Kai-sheks was married for 48 years before Chiang Kai-shek's death in 1975.This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.WE PROVIDE IN-HOUSE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE!
