American. Double Sided. Watercolor. Vertical- Chinatown. Horizontal- San Francisco View, Mission Dolores and the San Francisco Mint. S: 22 1/2 x 17 in. O: 33 1/2 x 27 1/2 in.Born in Oakland, CA on Sept. 29, 1906. Post settled in San Francisco in 1919 and, after graduating from Polytechnic High School, studied at the CSFA (1924-26). He began exhibiting in the early 1930s and received favorable criticisms for his watercolors of the San Francisco Bay area and the Mother Lode country. He taught at Stanford University (1940), San Jose State College (1951-52), and the CCAC (1947-72). Having traveled and painted around the world, Post lived in San Francisco until March 26, 1997. He was an important contributor of the California style watercolor movement (also known as the California School of watercolor) of the mid 1920s until the mid 1950s.
