A CHINESE POLYCHROME PAINTED AND CARVED WOOD WARRIOR ON HORESEBACK WITH STAND, LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY, nicely sculpted wearing traditional Tang Dynasty style armor and helmet with a fierce expression, his left hand positioned to carry a spear or flagpole and the other clutches the reigns of his animated prancing horse, dressed in fine tack suspending fly whisks and symbols with cropped tail, on a rectangular base raised within a white painted box form pedestal. Height: 48.00" Width: 39.50" Depth: 14.00" Condition: Surface is worn and crackled with traces of various pigment colors and gilt highlights throughout, old cracks revealing gesso and wood body, small and large chips, considerable surface buildup, lacking spear/flagpole, old restorations and wood shrinkage.
