童子戏牛为明末清初之际极流行的文玩题材，此圆雕摆件同上海博物馆藏品相似（参见《中国美术全集•工艺美术编—竹木牙角器》页19，图20），雕刻一卧牛，两顽童攀戏其上，神态生动，儿童性情跃然可见，为清代嘉定竹根雕刻之佳作，不为多见。参阅：《尚象成形—中国传统竹雕艺术》，（台北）历史博物馆，1996年，页167。《中国美术全集•工艺美术编—竹木牙角器》，文物出版社，1988年，页19，图20。
