COLLECTION OF TWO CASED WALRUS SKULLS WITH TUSKS AND OOSIK - Pre MMPA 1972 (Marine Mammal Protection Act 1972, Amended 1994). Taken in the first half of the 20th century; the large tusks, R-29"long; L 26"long) were subsequently carved by native artist Idele Aningayou of Gambell, AK in 1985. The carving represents mirror cameo images on each tusk of a whale, bear and walrus. Molars are intact in the skull. The smaller skull/tusks (approx 20"long) are in a natural state as is the 23" oosik.. Condition good; some cracking and restoration due to age and carving. Back of case is lined with fragment of spotted seal skin in fair condition, due to past insect damage. Specimens can be removed from case if desired. Pine case with plexi-glass front; 39"H x 20.5"W x 17.5"D
